Transportation Committee

The Transportation Committee aims to address a comprehensive range of transportation topics, ensuring that Sylmar's unique character, especially its equestrian facets, is both maintained and improved. Here are the key areas we will be focusing on:

  • Pedestrian Accessibility: Advancing improvements in sidewalks and ensuring the implementation of curb cuts where necessary, promoting walkable and universally accessible streets.

  • Wheeled Transportation Infrastructure: Advocacy for the creation and maintenance of lanes and pathways suitable for bikes, scooters, wheelchairs, and other modes of wheeled transportation, ensuring safe avenues for both daily commuting and recreational activities.

  • School Safety: Promoting enhanced safety measures around schools, ensuring that children walking, biking, or using other means of transportation can commute securely. This includes improved crosswalks, signage, and traffic calming strategies in school zones.

  • Equestrian Considerations: Collaborate with the existing equestrian committee to further establish and augment equestrian trails and multi-use pathways, upholding Sylmar's cherished equestrian heritage.

  • Safety Measures: Proposing general enhancements that improve road safety for all users.

  • Public Transit: Review the current public transportation offerings, pinpoint gaps, and suggest potential improvements or additions for the community's benefit.

  • Commercial District Street Improvements: Focusing on the main commercial districts as outlined in the neighborhood plan, advocate for street enhancements that bolster business activities while ensuring pedestrian and vehicular safety.

It's important to highlight that this committee will purposely avoid issues related to street vendors on sidewalks, as this committee believes other committees or specific council entities would be better equipped to address these matters.
